About this Training
The Tripod Beta Bronze course is a comprehensive three-day training program designed to equip professionals with advanced incident investigation methodology. The course begins with a fundamental understanding of the Tripod Beta methodology and its philosophical underpinnings, emphasizing the crucial relationship between human behavior, error management, and organizational safety culture.
Day two delves into the technical aspects of the Tripod Beta Core Diagram, teaching participants how to systematically analyze incidents through Sequentially Timed Event Plotting (STEP) and the construction of core diagrams. Participants learn to identify and map out events, agents, and objects while understanding the role of barriers in preventing incidents. This practical knowledge is reinforced through hands-on exercises and case studies.
The final day focuses on translating investigation findings into actionable recommendations and remedial measures. Participants learn to develop SMART actions based on failed barriers and underlying causes. The course concludes with an introduction to the Tripod Beta software and information about the broader accreditation scheme, preparing participants for potential advancement to Silver and Gold levels.

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Master the systematic application of the Tripod Beta methodology for incident investigation, including the distinctive “trio verification” approach and causation path analysis
- Develop proficiency in human error analysis, including the identification and classification of slips, lapses, mistakes, and violations within the context of organizational safety
- Construct and interpret Tripod Beta Core Diagrams, with special emphasis on barrier analysis and the identification of Basic Risk Factors (BRFs)
- Apply advanced interviewing techniques specific to incident investigation, incorporating the four P’s methodology (Papers, Parts, Positions, People)
- Create effective, SMART recommendations based on failed barriers and underlying causes identified through the Tripod Beta analysis process
This course is designed for professionals who play a direct or supervisory role in workplace safety, incident investigation, and operational risk management. Participants should ideally possess at least 2-3 years of practical experience in a safety-related role, though this is not a strict requirement. A basic understanding of occupational health and safety principles is essential, as is familiarity with risk assessment concepts. The role should involve some level of responsibility for either conducting investigations, participating in investigation teams, be able to read Tripod reports (e.g. to review investigation findings) or implementing investigation findings. A background in technical operations, engineering, or safety management is advantageous but not mandatory.
