About This Classroom Training
Lately, fuel cell technology is more crucial than ever, as the world faces the urgent need to combat climate change and transition to a low-carbon economy. These electrochemical devices offer a clean and efficient alternative to fossil fuel-based energy generation by converting the chemical energy of hydrogen into electricity, producing no harmful emissions. With the potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, especially when powered by hydrogen derived from renewable sources, fuel cells present a compelling solution for decarbonisation and climate change mitigation.
Moreover, fuel cells enhance energy security and diversification by operating on a variety of fuels, including hydrogen, natural gas, biogas, and renewable liquid fuels, reducing reliance on a single source. Their high efficiency, ranging from 40% to 60%, translates into substantial energy savings and reduced operating costs compared to conventional combustion-based technologies. Fuel cells can be deployed in a distributed manner, providing reliable and uninterrupted power to remote areas or critical infrastructure, while also serving as a backup power sources during grid outages, thus enhancing the resilience of power systems.
This 3-day classroom course builds to discuss utilisation of fuel cells as well as the fuel cell classification and their main features are shown. Participants will be exposed to practical hands-on experimental work to see a hydrogen fuel cell in action. Key electrical features and behaviors will be introduced before exploring fuel cells and fuel cell systems on a component level. The participants will able to dive deeper into the specific behavior of fuel cells, system architecture, operating strategies, failure modes, and lifetime features. Economics and extended safety discussions will conclude the course including chapters on key portable fuel cell applications, stationary and mobile applications, will round out the program enables participants to explore the topic thoroughly.
This course will be delivered via face-to-face over 3-day sessions, comprising of 8 hours per day, 1 hour lunch and 2 breaks of 15 minutes per day. Course Duration: 19.5 hours in total, 19.5 CPD points.
