About this Classroom Training

Electrolyser plants are gaining increasing importance as countries shift towards sustainable energy solutions. The emphasis on green hydrogen production via Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysis is becoming more pronounced, driven by individual national policies aimed at reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy security. Key factors such as safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance are essential for the successful implementation of these technologies.

Given that electrolyser plants are relatively new, the limited industry experience and the complexities of commercial projects have made it challenging to gather reliable information, including lessons learned. Many projects have incorporated unnecessary design features or lacked adequate design, construction, and maintenance protocols, leading to accidents in some cases. Additionally, since PEM stacks represent the most expensive component and have limited operational data, selecting the right Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) poses a significant challenge. Building large-scale electrolyser infrastructure necessitates navigating a unique set of scenarios involving multiple stakeholders, including OEMs, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) partners, construction teams, and local governments.

This 3-day course is designed to address these challenges by focusing on critical design considerations, operational strategies, and safety protocols essential for successful electrolyser deployment. Participants will gain insights into accident prevention, common commercial mistakes, and lessons learned from past projects. This course will cover the principles of safety compliance while balancing stack and plant requirements. Emphasis will be placed on installation and maintenance accessibility to ensure long-term operational efficiency and minimise downtime. Additionally, opportunities will be provided to discuss maintenance predictability and detailed commissioning processes, equipping participants with practical knowledge for deploying PEM electrolysers effectively.

This course will be delivered face-to-face over 3-day sessions, comprising of 8 hours per day, 1 hour lunch and 2 breaks of 15 minutes per day. Course Duration: 19.5 hours in total, 19.5 CPD points.

Hands on explanation of electrolyser design, operation, limitation which was carried out by your expert trainer, was amazing!

    Process Engineer, Petronas.

I found that the general electrolyser principles course and the stack development training provided my colleagues with a broader understanding of the technical aspects of our products. This, in turn, helped them contribute to the further development of our products.

    Senior Manager, ITM Power.

Good technical information on PEM Stack design requirements.

Principal Engineer Utility Water, Petronas Group Technical Solution Sdn Bhd.

The best trainer I've met. He knows the PEM technology very well from the design till operations. He engaged with participants very well through group presentation/recap what we have learned so far.

    Executive Petrochemicals, Petronas.
